03.17.19 Sunday Message

I absolutely love this picture, look at my sweet husband and darling grandkids, and now we have two more on the way! It’s so thrilling but I have to be honest with you, when I looked at this picture I thought, “where has time gone? Wasn’t it yesterday these sweet little ones were my own children?” I’m so thrilled my kids are married to wonderful people and have started families of their own, there’s no greater joy on earth...

Where did the time go?

Time is something we talk about ALL THE TIME! For instance...

Do you have time?
What time is it?
Let’s make time.
I don’t have time right now.
Time is of the essence.
It’s time to go!
It’s about time!
Time’s up!

There’s more... but what I do know about time is God gave ALL of us the same amount of minutes in every hour. Those minutes are the same no matter if you’re at work, cleaning the house or sitting through a movie... but they can sure feel different, don’t they? When my children were little time seemed to stand still, but as soon as they started high school time just flew by. I feel like it took 90 years to go from diapers to middle school, but then freshmen in high school to drivers permits to missions and college then weddings and babies... wow... it flies in a heartbeat. My youngest son Matthew, who is on a mission right now, said something profound to me when I spoke to him this week that got me thinking. I was telling him that I couldn’t believe he was on the downward side of his mission. He said, “Mom It’s crazy, the first year felt like forever but now it’s going way too fast. I wish time would just stop, I love it out here, I really don’t want it to end!” Then he said, “You know mom, I think that’s how our life is on earth, it’s like a mission. At first it feels like it goes really slow then all of a sudden time starts going really fast and one day you look in the mirror and you’re old… like you mom!” 🤣😂. He’s such a stinker! 😉 Then he said, “And like a mission, I believe if we spend our mortal time wisely, growing in knowledge and refining our character so we love one another and serve all Gods children, we better our lives. We just need to take the time to learn of Christ and strive to follow His example in all things... it will change our lives! Isn’t this the whole reason we came here to earth mom?” Then he said “Man I LOVE God!”
I so LOVE my boy!!

I certainly can’t slow time down (believe me I’ve wished for it) but I can do things that will make my time more meaningful... and I want to stress this as strongly as I can, you do not have to do huge things to have meaningful experiences with other people! There were many times the Savior changed someone’s life just by giving people a “moment” of His time. He was never in a hurry when it came to ministering to people. His apostles sometimes tried to keep him moving on to the next place but the Savior knew something very important about time... it was His to give. He could offer people very little in the way of material things, but He did have time, and He gave it freely...

Giving your time is often a split second decision, and in that moment we can say a kind word to a stranger or send a text of gratitude to a friend, stopping on the way out the door to hug to your child or look into your spouses eyes and say I sure appreciate you... it's small moments like these in your day that can make a big differences in your life. But I know that the time spent in those moments will be the best parts of your day! 👍😊

If no one has told you yet today, know that I appreciate you! 😉♥️
